However, a move did not materialise with Old Trafford chiefs believed to have been reluctant to meet his price tag, but Trippier remains interested in sealing the switch, says AS.

United have struggled defensively this season across all competitions, with first-choice Wan-Bissaka the target of heavy criticism for several erratic displays.

Trippier 'still likes the idea' of heading to United, although they may also face competition from a Premier League rival.

Indeed, Newcastle - fresh from their mega-money takeover - have been credited with interest in the ex-Tottenham man and would be able to match his valuation.
