Napoli Reportedly Offer Goalkeeper David Ospina New Contract

Napoli have reportedly offered goalkeeper David Ospina a new contract, although Lazio are also interested in the Colombia international.

Ospina’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the idea had been for him to make way for Alex Meret after a period of acting as his mentor.

However, Meret’s progress has not been as rapid as expected and there are increasing concerns as to whether the Italian is ready to take over the gloves on a permanent basis.

Coach Luciano Spalletti continues to support Ospina as the first choice between the sticks in Serie A.

According to Sky Sport Italia transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli have offered Ospina’s entourage a new contract.

The 33-year-old has been at Napoli since 2018, initially on loan from Arsenal, then transferring in 2019 for €3.5m.

An agreement is not guaranteed, because Lazio are already keeping a close eye on his situation and could swoop for the free agent to replace ageing Pepe Reina.
