Xavi: 'Barcelona is on the verge of excellence'

Appointing Xavi as the manager was perhaps one of the few good things that happened to Barcelona over the past year.

Losing Lionel Messi was a huge blow as the club dealt with an unprecedented financial crisis. However, Xavi believes the Catalans are on the path to glory.

In an interview quoted by El Chiringuito, Xavi said: "Barcelona is on the verge of excellence when it comes to defending, pressing and values.

"But finishing and final ball still needs to be worked on."

Barcelona are currently seventh in La Liga standings and are 10 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
