Diego Costa Side Atletico Mineiro Wins The Brazilian League For The First Time In 50 Years

Chelsea fan favourite Diego Costa has sealed another league title, with fans pointing to his 'warrior' mentality as he helped Atletico Mineiro win the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

Costa, 33, played his part alongside Hulk in helping Mineiro win their first league title in 50 years and in the process destroy the Flamengo/Santos axis that has dominated this league in recent times.

The 3-2 away win to Bahia on Thursday night all but confirmed the remarkable success that manager Cuca has spearheaded and the former Chelsea striker has played a makeshift part in the process in helping his team make history.

At the age of 33, the former Spain international has struggled with fitness issues that have haunted him since he left west London in the January transfer window of 2018.

Nonetheless, in the 14 games that he featured in some capacity for Atletico, the serial-winning striker still contributed a respectful five goal contributions to the cause.

This Serie A title has now been added to the two Premier League titles and League Cup triumph that the Blues' ex-number 18 achieved when he was the main man at Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, it wasn't a surprise to see Chelsea fans on social media reminisce on Costa's successful, but bittersweet, time at their club.

Supporters have praised Costa for the winning mentality he still has in the twilight years of his career, with some even optimistically suggesting that he could have a role with the west Londoners going forward in the Thomas Tuchel era.
