'Done deal': National team coach says Chelsea will sign Hungarian centre-back Szalai

"It’s hard to name just one player, but right now I see very well Attila Szalai, who plays for Fenerbache, but I think he is joining Chelsea," Hungary national team manager Marco Rossi said when asked which Hungarian player is good enough for Serie A (h/t Football Italia).

"Clearly, he has been followed by important clubs in Spain, but apparently his move to Chelsea is a done deal. It would be a great player also for Italian football."

Attila Szalai has made 43 appearances for Fenerbahce since joining them in January last year. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the best young defenders in Turkey.

The centre-back's stats for Hungary and Fenerbahce show that he's a very active defender, averaging 1.9 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game.

His passing accuracy rate is quite average (78 per cent) and the number of aerial duels he wins (1.8 per game) is relatively low considering his 1.92 cm (6 ft 3 in) height.

It's unclear whether Szalai would join the Blues in January or next summer, and if he would play for the first team or get sent on loan. There has been no official confirmation of the transfer — Rossi is the first to break the news.
