Kylian Mbappe explains he let Leo Messi take penalty against Brugge in Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain concluded their 2021/22 Champions League group stages campaign with a 4–1 win against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

Lionel Messi scored a brace against the Belgian side to take his tally of the season to six goals in 14 games in all competitions, with his second goal coming from the penalty sport.

Dedicated spot-kick taker Kylian Mbappe, who could have had a hat-trick after netting a quick brace in the first half, handed Messi the ball and allowed the Argentine to take the penalty.

Explaining his decision, the Frenchman told RMC: "We are going to need Messi during the season and I'm sure he will help us. He needs to have confidence. It's good for him that he finished with two goals, but it's also good for us for the future."
