Troost-Ekong, Emmanuel Dennis Can’t Save Watford Against Man City

Watford of England’s Nigerian duo of William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure were both in action for The Hornets on Sunday, but their efforts could not save their side from falling at home against Manchester City, megasportsarena.com reports.

Troost-Ekong’s battling efforts in the heart of Watford’s defence proved ineffectual, as Bernardo Silva scored twice as in-form Man City capitalised on Chelsea’s defeat to West Ham United by beating The Hornets 3-1 at Vicarage Road to move top of the English Premier League table.

City have now won their past 14 games against Watford and this latest victory was on course from the moment Raheem Sterling headed home just four minutes in, scoring against the Hornets for the sixth match in a row.

Aymeric Laporte had already seen a shot cleared off the line by that point and Jack Grealish missed a series of good chances teed up by Phil Foden before the brilliant Bernardo Silva slotted in on 31 minutes, to double the advantage.

After the break, Silva cut in on his left foot to bend a beauty into the top corner in the 63rd minute, for his fifth goal in five league games, while Foden and Grealish hit the woodwork in a dominant display from the reigning champions.

Both Nigerian players got 90 minutes under the respective boots at The Vic, but Dennis’ amazing burst of goals in three straight matches came to an end, as he fired blanks all evening long and , and the hosts failed to get back into the game, in spite of their spirited second half fight back.

The Hornets’ half-time substitute, Cucho Hernandez did pull one back for the hosts in the 74th minute, when he followed up his own shot against the far post, but they could not get more than that.

Soon after, Josh King pinged his low cross just wide moments later but City regained control to see out the final stages and make it five Premier League wins on the spin.

Watford’s coach, Claudio Ranieri had not lost to City in his previous nine matches against them with other clubs but it happened on Sunday, after losing six of his first eight games in charge of The Hornets.

The comprehensive defeat at home also underlined the big task facing Ranieri, as the Italian tactician has to lift them away from danger, as Watford remain 17th, three points above the relegation zone.
