'At least eight people' were killed on Monday before the Africa Cup of Nations clash between Cameroon and Comoros, according to the BBC.
There was a crush outside the Paul Biya stadium in Cameroon's capital of Yaounde, leaving several dead — including one child — and 'dozens injured'.
The stadium, which has a capacity of 60,000, was only supposed to be 80 per cent full due to the Covid-19 restrictions in the African country. However, some 50,000 fans reportedly tried to attend the match.
Journalist Leocadia Bongben said: "People started shouting. A minute after that an ambulance came to the stadium, but when we got to the place the police would not allow us to get close to where the stampede was."
Six people are reported to have been killed and dozens hurt in a crush outside a stadium hosting an Africa Cup of Nations match in Cameroon.
