Dutch footballer and referee announce relationship after meeting when he was sent off

FC Emmen defender Jeff Hardeveld and Dutch referee Shona Shukrula have confirmed their relationship on social media.

They met during a football match in August 2021 when Shukrula was the fourth official in the Eerste Divisie clash in which Hardeveld was sent off.

The 26-year-old left-back then bumped into his future girlfriend after seeing red, marking the start of their relationship.

30-year-old Shukrula became a FIFA qualified referee in 2017. In 2020, she began fourth official duties in the Dutch second division.
