Aston Villa risk missing out on keeping hold of Philippe Coutinho this summer.
Coutinho joined Villa on-loan from Barcelona in January, with a permanent option for €40m included.
Sport says Villa have asked Barca for time to make a final decision over whether to pull the trigger on buying the Brazilian.
And with Villa stalling, an opening has been made for Newcastle United to step in.
The Toon are keen on keeping Coutinho in England next season and have registered their interest with Barca.
