The UEFA Champions League, the pinnacle of European club football, has been the stage for some of the most memorable matches and extraordinary goalscoring feats.
Among the standout performers in the 2023/24 competition are football prodigies Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland. Haaland, in particular, set a high bar last season by becoming only the second player to score five goals in a Champions League knockout game since Lionel Messi achieved the feat in 2011/12.
In this article, brought to you by The e360hubs, we take a look at the all-time top scorers in the history of the Champions League and European Cup.
Who has scored the most goals in Champions League history?
Leading the pack is none other than Cristiano Ronaldo, who has netted an impressive 140 goals in the competition over his illustrious career. Ronaldo’s goal tally comes from his time at Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. However, he won’t be adding to that tally for now, as Manchester United are competing in the Europa League during the 2022/23 season.
Hot on Ronaldo’s heels is Lionel Messi, who is second with 129 goals scored for Barcelona and PSG.
Robert Lewandowski rounds out the top three with 92 goals. The Poland international made history by becoming the first player to score a hat-trick for three different teams in the competition (Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona), with his latest hat-trick coming against Viktoria Plzen while playing for Barcelona.
