Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak has revealed a conversation he had with Florentino Perez during his side’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals second leg.
He revealed: “I think Florentino Perez actually congratulated me in the 82nd minute.”
City were leading the tie during that time and looked set to move into the finals. However, Madrid scored two quickfire goals in stoppage time to force extra time – in which Karim Benzema scored the winner to take Los Blancos to the final.
Real would go on to defeat Liverpool in the final to lift their 14th Champions League title.
