Chelsea Set To Complete Kounde's Signing As Soon As Takeover Is Complete

Chelsea has 'put in place plans' to sign Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde as soon as Todd Boehly's consortium completes the deal to buy the club, Goal's Nizar Kinsella reports.

Kounde was Chelsea's target last year as well, but the deal fell apart as Sevilla increased the asking price at the last moment.

This time, both clubs are keen on completing the deal early, while Kounde has a verbal agreement with Chelsea over personal terms. Sevilla is asking for £59m.

With Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen certain to leave, Chelsea is in desperate need of fresh blood in defence. The situation may yet escalate if Cesar Azpilicueta pushes for the exit door as well.

Chelsea has options on their shortlist, including Presnel Kimpembe (PSG), Jose Gimenez (Atletico Madrid) and Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig).

Kounde is the primary target, though, and he might become Boehly's first signing after the American completes the takeover.

Is Kounde what Chelsea need defensively?
