Chelsea Takeover 'At Risk', Could Be Expelled From Premier League

Sky Sports report that the Chelsea takeover is 'at risk' as the process has hit a new stumbling block.

The UK government have not received assurances from Roman Abramovich about where the money from the sale would go to. The officials do not want the sanctioned oligarch to receive any money from the sale.

Chelsea owes £1.5bn in loans to Abramovich. The businessman previously stated that he would write off the loan but has not provided any legal assurances he would do it. Without such an agreement, the government would not grant a license to sell the club to Todd Boehly.

The situation has put the takeover 'into doubt' as the government is not prepared to grant a license to complete the sale.

A failure to complete the takeover by the end of May could be 'disastrous' for Chelsea, Sky adds. The Blues could be excluded from the Premier League and other club competitions and thrown into administration.
