Chelsea wanted to pursue Haaland this summer but sanctions on Abramovich stopped move

Chelsea are 'frustrated that restrictions arising from the sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich' halted their pursuit of Erling Haaland, as per ESPN.

As per ESPN's sources, senior figures within the club were discussing this signing for the summer. Chelsea were already interested in him last season but ended up signing Romelu Lukaku as Dortmund refused to let their man go.

Tuchel himself claimed last year that Chelsea were interested in Haaland last summer.

Due to sanctions on Abramovich, Chelsea cannot sign players and since the new owners have yet not taken over, the club can't plan for transfers either.

As a result, Chelsea will likely not even be able to make an attempt for Haaland and Manchester City have been named as the club likeliest to sign him this summer.
