Mundo Deportivo says the Spaniard's agent Fali Ramadani flew to London this week to speed up transfer discussions.
The 31-year-old is determined to join Barcelona this summer, along with teammate Andreas Christensen and, potentially, captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Alonso moved to the Blues in 2016 and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the London club.
