The way that Thomas Tuchel substituted off Antonio Rudiger with ten minutes to go in yesterday’s game felt barely emotional for the German coach, and as he revealed in his interview after the game, it wasn’t his idea.
Tuchel revealed that it was Rudiger’s request to be taken off so he and the crowd could show some mutual affection, and we’re glad he did.
Other players will leave this summer and won’t get nearly the same goodbye. Rudiger’s story at Chelsea was a great one, and he deserved his special farewell.
