Manchester United have made an opening proposal for Frenkie de Jong for €60m plus a €10m in add-ons, Fabrizio Romano tweets.
The offer has been rejected by Barcelona, although both clubs are still in contact over the possible deal.
Barcelona values De Jong at €100m. The fee is not beyond Man United who have handed their new manager a €250m war chest to sign new players.
There are credible reports about Frenkie accepting to join the Red Devils even though he would miss out on things like Champions League football.
