French interior minister apologises to Liverpool fans for 'mismanagement' of Champions League final

Since the dramatic events in Paris on the day of the Champions League final, French interior minister Gerald Darmanin was pushing the theory that the Liverpool fans with 'fake tickets' were to blame for being teargassed near Stade de France - despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Now, however, the minister has finally done what he needed to do on the first day - he's apologised.

"Should the Stade de France have been better managed? The answer is yes," Darmanin told French radio station RTL.

"Do I have a share of responsibility? The answer is yes.

"I apologise very gladly for all those who suffered this mismanagement."

Well, the 'mismanagement' is one way to put it. The Liverpool fans suffered harassment before the game, robbery after the match and an unstoppable flow of lies from the French authorities ever since.

Darmanin is now trying to shift the responsibility onto Paris chief of police Didier Lallement and the local young adults who succeeded in getting to the stadium without tickets - unlike some Liverpool supporters who did pay for theirs.
