No selling promising players and more: 4 don'ts for Ancelotti at Real Madrid

Real Madrid had a successful 2021/22 season, winning La Liga and the Champions League.

We have already analysed what the club needs to do this summer. If Carlo Ancelotti wants to be as successful in the future, there are certain things we believe he should avoid next season.

1. Don't overspend on backups
Bought as a supposed backup and future replacement for Karim Benzema, Luka Jovic is yet to show why Real Madrid paid €60m for him. The club will need to sign a backup left-back and possibly another striker this summer, but they should find someone that won't cost the club a fortune.

2. Don't sell promising players
Achraf Hakimi would have been a starter at Madrid, Sergio Reguilon would have been a worthy competitor to Ferland Mendy for the starting spot. The money was good at the time we sold them, but now we'd have to spend even more to get someone of their level.

3. Don't let a player's contract expire
Marcelo, Gareth Bale and Isco will leave the club this summer as free agents. Perhaps it would have been better if Madrid sold these players and invested the money in some younger backups on lower wages.

4. Don't shy away from rotation
Ancelotti had a fixed lineup that he kept playing week in and week out. At one point during the season, the starters began picking up injuries. Luckily, none of them was too serious and we had all the important players available for the Champions League final.

To avoid such risks in the future, Ancelotti should put more trust in his backups.
