Gerard Pique is refusing to leave Barcelona after a crunch meeting with coach Xavi.
Marca says the coach has held a meeting with the player in which he has expressed that he no longer sees him as a starter next season and that his role in the team has changed.
However, despite this warning, the player will not leave Barcelona.
He intends to stay and is not willing to leave the club even if he is not going to be an undisputed starter.
Pique has made up his mind and will stay for at least one more year.
The situation is complex. Barcelona's problem with Pique is basically financial rather than sporting. The wages he will receive next season is enormous.
According to some sources it is well over 40 million euros. This is a burden for the club in terms of the wage bill.
If Pique were to leave, Barcelona would have a wider margin to sign players.
