Pique to Barca president: 'Bring the best defender and he'll be a substitute to me'

Barcelona president Joan Laporta met with Gerard Pique earlier this month to discuss the defender's future at the club as Barca's financial crisis drags on.

According to Sport.es, Laporta told the 35-year-old that it was possible that he could put on the transfer market this summer unless he improves physically.

Enraged, Pique reportedly held his ground and responded to the president: "Go and bring the best centre-back in the world and he'll be a substitute to me."

In the end, Pique, who has two years left on his contract, agreed to keep his various personal and business affairs quiet and focus on entirely on Barcelona.
