Ranking Liverpool's Top 5 Performers Of 2021/22 Season

Top performers this season

This season has been a season of ups and downs. We triumphed over Chelsea twice to lift the Caraboa and FA cup only to lose out to the Premier League and Champions League to Man City and Real Madrid. So today I am going to go over our 5 best players this season in my opinion.

5. Virgil Van Dijk.

As we all know, Van Dijk had an injury that has previously ended careers early but Virg didn't give up this and is back to business this season, being one of the best defenders in the league again. He helped get 21 clean sheets this season, which is his highest tally ever. He also made 2,646 passes, and won 117 aerial battles. Maybe he hasn't had his best ever season, but he has been, as usual, one of our best and most important players.

4. Joel Matip

Matip and Virgil performed almost equally well, but I put Matip ahead as he hasn't put a foot wrong all season and after all of the injuries he has ever had, he has finally had a chance to prove he deserves to be recognised as one of the best centre-backs in the Prem. He has made 44 interceptions and won 34 tackles in his best season ever and will remain as one of the most underrated players in Liverpool history.

3. Trent Alexander-Arnold

Trent has been very good this season, with his passing getting even better and even improving on other aspects of his game, defending in particular. I've seen many people criticise all the errors he makes but never say when he does anything good defensively. He still does have some flaws, as we saw in the final, but for some of the game Vinicius couldn't get past, with a little help from Konate. However, his attacking qualities far outweigh his defensive abilities. Our team wouldn't be the same without the variety of passing that Trent possesses, and this is so important to our team that even though his defending is not as good as most defenders, his passing is a must have for any team in the world.

2. Alisson

Alisson could very well have been first this season, but I think second is a good place. His saves throughout the season have kept Liverpool in all competions until the end, most notably the saves in the FA cup final for the penalty. By now, Alisson is probably the best one on one keeper in the world, and is a crucial part not just to the keeper play, but playing out with his feet. This is a key part of Liverpool's playing style and he even managed to get and assist to Salah's goal against Norwich, which shows you how much he contributes to their defence and attack.

1. Mo Salah

Mo Salah was looking to break his own record for most goals at the first half of the season, but he slowed down in the second. Nevertheless, he still managed to get some goals and ended the season as joint-highest goal scorer, which is impressive in itself, but he also managed to get the most assists, which is incredible. Some of his performances this season have been very average, but he has given some real memories too, including his hattrick at Old Trafford in the 5-0 thrashing of United. Sadly, it doesn't look like he will be signing a new contract any time soon so he may leave on a free next season, but he may be regarded by some as a club legend.

So that was my 5 best players this season. I also think Mane deserves a mention too, as he only just missed out but all of our players have played out of their skin and lets hope it continues!
