Xavi has had a face-to-face meeting with Gerard Pique during which he told the centre-back that he doesn't see him as a regular starter next season, Mundo Deportivo's reliable Fernardo Polo claims.
The coach also expressed concern with Pique's regular injuries, saying that he fears possible relapses. Xavi told the veteran that his wages pose a problem for Barcelona's transfers and future planning.
Gerard, on his part, told the manager that he wants to continue at Barca and is ready to prove that he is the best centre-back at the club no matter who is signed this summer. Pique is also willing to lower his salary to help out the club.
Meanwhile, Diario Sport say that Xavi has recommended Pique leave the club. The coach also has a problem with the centre-back's off-the-pitch controversies.
The 35-year-old has a deal with Barca until 2024. As per previous reports, he wants to fulfil his contract at the club.
