CAF President Announces Start Of African Super League In August 2023, Prize Money To Total $100m

The European Super League project survived for just two days - but a similar project is set to start in Africa next year.

According to Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the first edition of the African Super League will launch in August 2023.

24 African teams that will be selected based on their FIFA rating will play in the competition. Earlier reports suggested that those teams will be divided into three regional groups which will determine 16 participants of the knockout stage.

CAF also said that the African Champions League will continue to exist alongside the new competition.

With the support for the project going from the top of the CAF, it looks like this project will not meet the fate of the European Super League, the organisation that is currently mired in courts.
