Ex-FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former UEFA president Michael Platini acquitted of corruption charges

Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former UEFA president Michael Platini have been acquitted of corruption charges by a Swiss court, Sky Sports reports.

Criminal proceedings were initiated after it was discovered that FIFA made secret payment worth £1.7 million to Mr. Platini.

Blatter, who was head of FIFA at the time, was forced to resign once these charges came to the public limelight.

After the verdict, Platini told reporters: "I want to express my happiness for all my loved ones that justice has finally been done after seven years of lies and manipulation.

"My fight is a fight against injustice. I won a first game. I'm not speaking about FIFA, I'm not speaking about corruption, I'm speaking about me.

"I have done nothing wrong. I am clean with my conscience, I am clean in my spirit."
