'I want to play football, I don't come here just for the logo': Christian Eriksen's first words as a Man United player

Speaking to MUTV, Christian Eriksen said: "I never thought it would actually happen, so to be here, like you say being a Manchester United player, it's very special. I think from my career path before the incident [heart attack] in the 2020 Euros, the planning wasn't to go back to the United Kingdom at all.

"I was thinking my time to go to Man United was before! Obviously, then I was at Tottenham, and then went to Italy [to play for Inter Milan], but now to sit here is definitely something that I didn’t expect, but I'm also very happy that I’m here. It feels good, it feels good to be here. I mean, I’m a guy who wants to play football.

"I think with the idea of the manager [Erik ten Hag] coming in and the ideas he had and also with my conversations with him, I could see myself playing football in Manchester. And, at the same time, it’s a very, very big club — if not the biggest. If you pronounce it anywhere people know where it's from.

"It's a nice feeling to be part of something that is that big in history but I want to come here to play football, I don't come here just for the logo itself. To speak with the manager and have conversations with him on the football terms was great and ideal for me to get the decision and the possibility of coming to Man United."

Eriksen surprisingly joined Man United on a three-year deal earlier this summer after his contract at Brentford expires at the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The 30-year-old managed to return to football following the terrifying heart incident at the Euro 2020 last summer, proving he can still play at the top level.
