Cristiano Ronaldo is understood to have asked Manchester United to let him leave this summer.

But the Premier League giants remain steadfast in their view that the Portuguese superstar is not for sale, 

The 37-year-old is said to want to play in the Champions League for the remainder of his career, which the Red Devils won’t be doing next season after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

The Times claims Ronaldo has told the club of his wish to depart this summer, and that rivals Chelsea and Bayern Munich have already discussed the possibility of signing the superstar forward.

Manchester United had denied initial rumours of a possible Ronaldo exit when the links first emerged in June.

And while the club has not moved to deny the claims he has asked for a move away from Old Trafford, United privately maintain he will be going nowhere this summer.

Ronaldo has a year left on his contract and new manager Erik ten Hag sees the legend as a key part of his plans.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is said to have held talks with Ronaldo’s representatives last week, while Bayern’s interest is also well-documented as they look for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who looks set for a move to Barcelona.
