Ronald Koeman: 'Barcelona are living in the past with their tiki-taka'

Speaking to Catalunya Radio, Ronald Koeman said: "I am in favour of dominating matches. If you play with three centre-back and five defenders, you can't say it’s a defensive system.

"With this system, for three or four months, we played the best games in recent years. The clearest example was the Copa del Rey final against Athletic.

"Barcelona are living in the past with their 4-3-3 and tiki-taka. Football is faster now, more physical. You can't live in the past."

Koeman was sacked as Barcelona's manager earlier this season with president Joan Laporta looking to appoint Xavi from the beginning of his tenure.

The Catalans switched back to the 4-3-3 system under the Spaniard, finishing second in La Liga but failing to progress past Champions League group stage.
