FIFA World Cup 2022 to start one day earlier than scheduled

FIFA are all set to move the starting date of the 2022 Qatar World Cup one day earlier than what is scheduled, claims The Athletic.

This means that the first game of the World Cup will take place on November 20, instead of November 21 – when it was supposed to start.

Host nation Qatar wants to play the first game of the tournament, which is why FIFA will begin the mega-tournament earlier.

It means that Qatar will face Ecuador in the tournament-opener on November 20, once the Ecuador Football Federation and CONMEBOL approves it.

Of course, this change also has to be approved by other continental federations like UEFA, CAF, AFC, CONCACAF and OFC.

But a unanimous agreement is expected to take place, with the change likely to be confirmed soon.
