Glazers' stance on letting Cristiano Ronaldo leave and how it affects Erik ten Hag

According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, a tier-one source, the Glazer family is the driving force behind Manchester United's decision to not sell Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

Ronaldo, 37, has made headlines for refusing to show up for pre-season training as he forces his way out of the club. However, with no big European side willing to sign him, he has no other choice but to continue at Old Trafford.

The Athletic understands that on a boardroom level, Joel Glazer has been involved in several discussions on Ronaldo. And in each of these meetings, he only reiterated that the Portuguese superstar is not for sale.

The report further adds that other senior figures reckon it's best to show Ronaldo the door but thanks to the Glazers' insistence, Erik ten Hag has been instructed to integrate the wantaway striker into the squad.

The problem is Ten Hag is trying to rebuild a new squad and having a volatile individualist like Ronaldo in the mix could undo all of his hard work.

Erik has questioned Cristiano's fitness, meaning he is not expected to start games from the get-go. But it remains to be seen if the forward accepts the situation and works harder or only makes things miserable.
