'He's An Insurance Policy': Scholes On Casemiro After United Debut

Speaking about Casemiro’s ideal role at Man United after his debut in the 1-0 win over Southampton, Paul Scholes told BT Sport: “I think Scott [McTominay] is better going forward, he’s been asked to play in that role as a holding midfield player, I don’t think he’s that good at it.

“I don’t think Fred’s good at it either. I think they’re both better when they’re going forward. With Casemiro, having that player who plays the position brilliantly behind you or next to you is invaluable. I had Michael Carrick, Roy Keane.

“It gives you freedom, I don’t even think about defending because I know the man who’s next to me or behind is in the right place all the time. It’s an insurance policy.”

Casemiro looked sharp towards the end of the Southampton match, ensuring United got the win and three crucial points.

The Brazilian - who inherited Scholes' iconic no.18 shirt at Old Trafford - is expected to be a regular starting going forward and should make his first Premier League start against Leicester City on Thursday.
