Premier League clubs set to stop taking the knee before games in 2022/23 season

The Premier League clubs have all decided that they will not be taking the knee regularly before the start of matches starting from this season, as per the Daily Mail.

The gesture was done in solidarity with the ‘No Room for Racism’ campaign since after the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, in a meeting between all 20 Premier League clubs’ captain, they agreed that it would only be done before selected matches going forward.

The captains believe that the symbol has lost its gravitas and isn’t necessary to do all the time, with other leagues already having stopped it.

Players are still likely to take the knee before major games and local derbies, with the captains eager not to overuse it and make it lose its meaning.

Bournemouth have also decided that they will not be taking the knee in any of their games this season.

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha was one of the players to have stopped taking the knee last season as he complained it made little difference.
