Ten Hag Warns Maguire: 'Being Captain Doesn't Mean You Play Always,

During a recent interview, Erik ten Hag was asked about the 'awkward' situation of dropping Harry Maguire despite being Manchester United captain.

Quoted by The Telegraph, the boss replied: "Yeah but that doesn’t mean when you are captain you are established to play always, especially not when you also have [Raphael] Varane in your squad.

Ten Hag was then asked if he'd consider a new captain and he said: "I am not looking so far.

"We are only one game [with Maguire being dropped]. We have a leader group and Harry is one of them and Bruno [Fernandes] is one of them.

"Bruno did quite well as captain. He led by example [against Liverpool] and he brings so much energy to the team in and out of possession."

It remains to be seen if Maguire will stay on the bench when we face Southampton later this Saturday.

Based on the solid partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane against Liverpool, it won't be surprising if the captain sits this one out.
