La Liga table 2022/23: Updated standings After Match Day 5

Updated La Liga table standings  After Match Day 5 2022/23

We're only five matchdays into the La Liga season and it's already a Barcelona vs. Real Madrid battle for the top spot in La Liga. Real Madrid remained perfect with a win over Mallorca on Sunday, ahead of El Clasico rivals Barcelona by two points.

Atletico Madrid, the 2020/21 La Liga champions, are hanging around, but are five points back of the top spot, currently sitting seventh. They have a chance to gain ground when they host derby rivals Real Madrid on Sunday.

At the other end of the table, Cadiz continues to languish in last place after a 4-0 home loss to Barcelona. They've lost every single one of their games so far and have yet to find the back of the net even once, getting outscored 14-0 in the process.

Few expected to see Girona in the top half of the table, but they're picking up points against other relegation battlers, including their latest 2-1 win against fellow promoted side Real Valladolid.

Sevilla is the big disappointment of the early season with three losses in their first five matches. They nearly saw a 3-0 lead evaporate at Espanyol in their last outing, but held on for their first win of the campaign.
