Three Manchester United stars return to training ahead of Man City fixture

Manchester United have been welcoming their international stars back to Carrington in stages throughout the week and were joined by three more on Wednesday in the shape of Antony, Christian Eriksen and Diogo Dalot.

Most of United's travelling players enjoyed fruitful international breaks. Eriksen was the standout as he scored a beautiful goal in the defeat to Croatia and was then instrumental in a shock win over France.

Dalot was also amongst the goals as he grabbed a rare brace in Portgual's 4-0 win over the Czech Republic. Antony, meanwhile, made two substitute appearances for Brazil.

The trio returned to training on Wednesday, joining Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia and Scott McTominay — who had arrived back at Carrington on Tuesday — as well as the likes of Jadon Sancho and David de Gea, who weren't on international duty, along with a host of promising youngsters.

Several players are still to return with the likes of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Fred all being given extra time off after they played a significant amount of minutes for their countries over the last two days.

Erik ten Hag has now got just three days remaining to prepare his side for their return to Premier League action when they come up against fierce rivals Manchester City on Sunday.

United haven't played a Premier League fixture since their victory over Arsenal on September 4 as the domestic football calendar was halted in the wake of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Though the majority of Premier League fixtures were played the week following her passing, United's match with Leeds was postponed due to a lack of police officers ahead of her funeral.

The Europa League fixtures did go ahead as scheduled, however, with United picking up a 2-0 win over FC Sheriff last time out.
