"Andriy Lunin has done his job. He's proven that he is ready to cover when Thibaut Courtois isn't there. He is improving with each game because he is gaining experience. He has the quality but lacks the minutes," Carlo Ancelotti said after the Elche win.
"Now that Courtois is back, Lunin will go back to the bench," the coach concluded.
In Courtois's absence, Lunin played six games, conceded four goals and kept two clean sheets.
Despite these numbers, though, it seems like Lunin isn't considered fit to compete for the starting spot at Real Madrid and is viewed exclusively as the backup option.
