According to ESPN, Manchester United will sue Cristiano Ronaldo over a breach of contract only if he fights his potential exit from Old Trafford.
The Red Devils would prefer to avoid a lengthy legal battle in the middle of the season, even though they have grounds to fight him in court.
Ronaldo's explosive interview with Piers Morgan has led to a very public falling out with the club, staff, players and especially Erik ten Hag.
United are in the process of terminating the 37-year-old's contract and wish to do so in a dignified manner after the World Cup.
With six months still left, Ronaldo will have to forego almost £17 million in unpaid wages. And if he refuses to leave or have his contract terminated, the club will reportedly initiate proceedings to sue him.
