According to the Athletic, Gareth Southgate has called Reece James to tell him he won't make England's final squad for the World Cup.
The Chelsea right-back is currently injured but hoped to recover in time to make the squad. Southgate decided that he 'cannot take a chance' on Reece.
From a point of view of a Chelsea fan, this is great as James will have time to properly recover and get ready for the second part of the season.
However, it must be a heartbreak for Reece himself: he often talked about dreaming of playing at the World Cup. According to the Athletic, James is 'devastated but accepts the decision'.
