Spain U21 coach told not to play Balde v Japan as youngster expected to receive World Cup call-up

Alejandro Balde was called up by Spain U21 and was expected to feature against Japan U21 on November 18.

However, Relevo report that Spain U21's coach Luis de la Fuente has received a message from the Spanish Football Federation that Balde cannot start against Japan.

Luis Enrique has chosen the 19-year-old to replace the injured Jose Gaya at the World Cup. The official announcement will follow once Spain confirm Gaya's injury.

Balde's breakthrough at Barcelona came this season under Xavi. He is yet to make his debut for the senior national team.
