Lionel Messi’s wait to win the elusive Golden Foot trophy will continue for at least one more year after missing out on the 2022 award.
The 2022 Golden Foot ceremony took place in Monaco on Wednesday, December 21 and Robert Lewandowski emerged victorious for the award given to players aged 28 and above.
According to Give Me Sport, the Golden Foot Trophy is the only award Lionel Messi is yet to win in his career after bagging the World Cup trophy last weekend.
The 35-year-old has won 42 trophies for club and country and is just one piece of silverware away from becoming the most decorated footballer ever.
Messi, who has won an incredible seven Ballon d'Or awards, is expected to take home his eighth in 2023.
