'Madrid wins CL, Messi wins World Cup, Benzema wins Ballon d'Or': Cristiano Ronaldo's worst season summed up

Cristiano Ronaldo is certain to end 2022 empty-handed in terms of trophies and individual achievement.

Meanwhile, Karim Benzema, a player formerly in his shadow, is the reigning Ballon d'Or champion. And just yesterday, Lionel Messi picked up his first-ever World Cup title.

One football fan Gibers has summed up what is arguably the worst football year for the Real Madrid legend:

"This has to be the worst year of his career," Gibers writes.

"Madrid won the Champions League without him beating the strongest teams.

"Benzema won a Ballon d'Or after Modric, showing that Madrid had the best players when he was there.

"Messi won the World Cup.

"He was benched for both his national team and club team.

"No top club wants him."

You have to feel for Ronaldo at this point. But the 37-year-old remains a football legend and reference. He's still arguably one of the best-ever players to lace a football boot.
