"Today, Mateu [Lahoz] lost control of the game and I have told him so," Xavi said during his post-match press conference after the Espanyol draw.
"He usually has a low heart rate in such situations, but today it got out of control. I don't blame him for anything anyway," the Barca boss added.
Also during the presser, Xavi stated that only Blaugrana were to blame for the defeat despite Lahoz's controversial refereeing.
Mateu Lahoz showed 15 yellow cards during the game which is close to his personal record of 16 yellows shown in the famous World Cup clash between the Netherlands and Argentina. He has also broken the La Liga record in this respect.
