Ex-Dutch forward, Marc Overmars, has reportedly suffered irreparable damage to his heart after going into cardiac arrest last month. The legendary winger was rushed to the hospital last year in December.

The 49-year-old was admitted to the hospital on 30 December last year after suffering what was reported to be a mild stroke.

But it has now emerged the former Barcelona forward's condition is more serious.

Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf claims that Overmars' heart is only able to pump blood at 30 per cent of its normal volume.

The report further suggests that part of the ex-Arsenal winger's heart muscle has died due to complications during what was actually a cardiac arrest. This means that its capacity to pump blood around the body has been reduced by 70 per cent compared to its normal volume, per the Sun.
