Gerard Pique Plots Surprise Comeback To Football Just Two Months After Retirement

Just a couple of months ago, Gerard Pique announced his decision to hang up his boots and leave Barcelona. He also admitted at the time that he could not imagine wearing any jersey other than that of the Blaugrana in the future.

The defender seems to have changed his mind and, according to Relevo, is plotting a comeback. Should he really come out of his early retirement, he would join Andorra, which he himself owns.

The comeback might be complicated, though. It mainly has to do with procedural issues and finances.

At Barcelona, the defender was paid around 20 million euros, and the second-tier Andorra certainly won't be able to provide him with that.

Much will depend on La Liga, as it is up to a special valuation committee to determine how much the experienced player's one-year contract should cost as a minimum. It looks like it could be as low as 25 per cent of his previous wages.

Even assuming the latter, meeting the requirements of the aforementioned body could be extremely difficult. Currently, the salary cap for the Spanish second division representative is only €6.5m.

The simplest way to resolve the problem would be to grow the club's assets, and that may require some new sponsorship.

Pique is reportedly aware of the struggles, yet he's quite determined to carry out the plan.
