Speaking about Thomas Partey after the 1-0 defeat at Man City in the FA Cup, Arteta said: "We didn't want to take any risks. He could not continue."
The gaffer added that Partey will have MRI scan on Saturday after feeling discomfort in his ribs.
Partey was replaced Sambi Lokonga during the interval.
