One would think that Lionel Messi is a cult hero in his home country of Argentina. I mean, given the kind of pictures we recently saw when the team landed back in Buenos Aires after winning the World Cup, this is a no-brainer.

Or how he was serenaded by fans when he went back to Rosario or how fans sang around his grandmother's house, he is revered in Argentina.

One would also think that it is almost unheard of for someone to praise Messi's greatest rival over the years, Cristiano Ronaldo, in Argentina. To them, Messi has always been their idol.

But Yamila Rodriguez, a striker with Argentina's Women's national football team has sent tongues wagging with a huge tattoo of Ronaldo. Unlike many people in Argentina, Rodriguez is a staunch fan of Ronaldo and decided to show her love by getting the tattoo on her leg.

While people are allowed to have independent decisions, this is controversial and ironic given the environment where she grew up worships the ground Messi walks on.

Rodriguez plies her professional trade with Boca Juniors. The 24-year-old has admitted to being a huge fan of Ronaldo and the late Diego Maradona, not Messi.

Messi's standing in Argentina's football recently rose tenfold after he guided the nation to its first World Cup since 1986. But not even his elegant display at 35 years could sway Rodriguez's opinion.
