Casemiro – 9, Licha – 8: rating Man United stars in Carabao Cup final

Casemiro – 9

Casemiro proved why United pushed for his signing with another cup final win in his career. Scored an impressive opener with a nice shot and he was a machine in midfield. Covered for his defenders, made key challenges and maintained a calm at the back – winning 3 tackles, 6 aerial duels and also making 5 ball possession recoveries.

Luke Shaw – 8

Shaw continued his impressive heroics at the most important game. Delivered a pitch-perfect cross to assist the opener and was defensively impressive. Despite getting little help, he did well to keep Newcastle quiet – making 2 interceptions, 2 clearances and 5 possession recoveries.

Lisandro Martinez – 8

An absolute warrior at the back and gave it to a very physical side. Was not shy from putting his body on the line and bullied the Newcastle forwards. Made 4 clearances and 2 blocks – including some really key contributions. What a player!

Wout Weghorst – 7.5

Despite initial doubts over whether he can be suitable for such a big game, Weghorst silenced his doubters with an efficient display. He was a pest with his pressing and linked things well up. Created the second with some impressive hold-up play and smart final third pass. Seemed built for this game and thrived in it.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 7.5

Wan-Bissaka only came on in the second half but made a huge impact. He completedly nullified the threat of Saint-Maximin and was almost flawless at the back – making some huge challenges. Won 8 ground duels and made 4 tackles in just the second half!

Raphael Varane – 7

Varane was the perfect partner for Licha, being composed and assertive with his defending. Made a few key challenges and was dominant in the air, winning 3 aerial duels and 4 clearances.

Diogo Dalot – 5

This might be a bit harsh, but Dalot was probably the only one who underperformed on the day. Was rinsed by Saint-Maximin and taken off at half-time.

The Others

De Gea – 7, Freed – 6.5, Bruno – 6, Antony – 7, Rashford – 6.5

Subs

McTominay – 6, Sabitzer – 7, Maguire – 6, Sancho – N/R
