Darwin Nunez has had a truly chaotic start to life on Merseyside, but slowly but surely, he’s finding his feet and looking much more composed with his decision making and when in front of goal.

He got his side off to the perfect start yesterday evening, scoring after just 10 minutes. He finished emphatically after an exquisite pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Shortly after, the lead was doubled when new boy Cody Gakpo found the back of the net.

Midway through the opening half, Nick Pope saw red for a moment of madness where he tried to bring the ball under control with his hands outside of the area. It gave the hosts a real uphill battle to get back into the game. Something they couldn’t do as the game played out from there, with Liverpool content with their 2-0 win.

It’s been a rough first season so far for Nunez, who has showed bags of potential, seemingly mastering the tougher side of the game. He often finds himself in the right positions, being nothing short of a nightmare for opposition defenders.

However, when it has come to his end product, he’s been frustrating to say the least. Nunez has looked rather erratic when going for goal or trying to set up a teammate. Thankfully he was in better form last night, beating Pope with a ferocious strike.

Despite his tough start on Merseyside, the Liverpool fans have been behind him all the way, supporting him no matter what. So, it was no surprise to see and hear them chanting his name after his goal, something that clearly meant so much to the Uruguayan.

After wheeling away in celebration, you could see how much it meant to the forward, who was visibly incredibly pumped. Even after celebrations on the pitch were dying down, Nunez was making the most of his strike.
Although attentions were turning back to the game on the pitch, the travelling Kop were still in full voice, chanting Nunez’s name. It was something that he was absolutely delighted with when you see his reaction, fist pumping them and grinning like a Cheshire cat.

The future appears to be bright for Nunez, who is looking to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Luis Suarez in writing his name into Anfield legend.
