Man Utd to ‘overhaul’ Carrington training ground months after Cristiano Ronaldo revelation

Manchester United are planning to overhaul their Carrington training base - just months after Cristiano Ronaldo’s damning complaints.

Ronaldo, in his now-infamous televised interview with Piers Morgan, slammed Man Utd for the lack of progress made behind the scenes during the 12 years he was away from the club.

When Ronaldo left Old Trafford for Real Madrid in 2009, United were widely regarded as one of the world’s most advanced clubs - both on and off the pitch.

But the Portuguese superstar felt that the Red Devils had fallen behind Europe’s leading clubs on his return in 2021.

What Ronaldo said about Man Utd's facilities?

"The progress was zero,” Ronaldo told Morgan in November, shortly before his Man Utd contract was terminated by mutual consent. "Since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed.

"He [Ferguson] knows better than anybody that the club is not on the path they deserve to be. He knows. Everyone knows.

"The people who don’t see that… it’s because they don’t want to see. They are blind.

"I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

"But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal.

"A club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately."

What are Man United's plan for Carrington ?

The Sun claim that a summer revamp will include a new state-of-the-art wellness suite, where players can perform yoga.

The overhaul will cost ‘millions’ but will convert the 108-acre Carrington into a ‘top-tier, luxury facility’, the Daily Mail add.

Man Utd moved to Carrington in 2000 under Ferguson, who assembled the great 1994 and 1999 teams at the club’s previous training ground, The Cliff.

However, a lack of investment in facilities under the club’s unpopular owners, the Glazer family, over the past 18 years has seen United fall behind some of their rivals.
